If you are one of the lucky ones and haven’t needed corrective eye wear don’t think for a minute that you don’t need yearly eye examinations.
Adult wellness eye exams are highly recommended once a year, even if you haven't noticed any changes in your eye health or vision. This is especially true among older adults, who may have a greater risk of developing ocular conditions like cataracts or macular degeneration. With annual eye exams, our eye doctors can perform a thorough examination of your eyes and be on the lookout for any potential "red flags" long before symptoms would have made themselves obvious to you. As a result, we may be able to diagnose eye conditions and other health conditions significantly sooner, which can increase chances for successful treatment in the long run.
We have also found that adult wellness eye exams can reveal signs of serious health problems, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and even brain tumors. In this sense, regular eye exams are important not only to your eye and vision health, but to your overall wellness, too!
At Choice Eye Care, our team of optometrists is committed to providing you with the highest standard of care in eye and vision care. From routine eye exams and eyewear for the whole family to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular conditions, we are your one-stop shop for all your eye care needs.
One of the most common misconceptions adults tend to have when it comes to their eye health is that an eye exam is only needed when you notice a problem or a change in eyesight. This couldn't be further from the truth!
If it's been awhile since your last eye exam (or if you've never had an eye exam at all), you may be wondering what to expect from the experience. Typically, we'll begin by reviewing your medical history and give you an opportunity to talk to our eye doctor about any symptoms or changes in vision. From there, we'll move onto performing a variety of tests including acuity tests, tests for your peripheral vision, and color-blindness tests. Our eye doctor will also take a thorough look at each eye to look for any signs of ocular problems.
If you need corrective lenses, we can get your prescription taken care of and you can order your lenses with us the same day of your appointment. We may also recommend follow-up diagnostic testing if your exam revealed any potential red flags. Of course, we'll always take the time to make sure you're well informed before we perform any additional testing. Most eye exams take between 30 minutes to an hour.
If you haven't had your adult wellness eye exam this year, now is the time to schedule your appointment with Choice Eye Care. You can reach our office by giving us a call at (630) 969-2020.
